Operations at the Royal Bank of Canada’s (RBC) Cable Beach location shut down for most of the day Friday after an attempted break-in.
Police officials confirmed that evidence suggested that bandits tried to break into the bank’s location at the Cable Beach Shopping Plaza.
However, officials said their efforts were unsuccessful.
RBC Regional Manager of Public Relations and Communications Jan Knowles, via email confirmed the reports.
She said the attempted break-in happened between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Friday but she could not say how and where the bandits tried to get into the bank.
The Bahama Journal understands from police sources however that the culprits may have tried to enter through the roof.
Ms. Knowles said anytime incidents like this happen the affected bank location is forced to shut its doors until it gets the all clear.
She also reported that branch customers were advised to use the John F. Kennedy and Old Fort Bay locations while the Cable Beach branch was temporarily closed.
The bank was expected to reopen at 2:00 p.m. Friday but when The Journal arrived at the scene around that time, customers were still being turned away and police were still on site, investigating the crime.
