The country recorded its 100th murder for 2014 after a 21-year-old man was shot to death Thursday morning, his murder came just two weeks after his younger brother was killed, also at the hands of gunmen.

It was on October 20 that Shaquan Wray was gunned down in the Farrington Road area right in the front of his home and yesterday, police say it was shortly after 7:00 a.m. that Shavaz Wray in a similar fashion.

Officials said they received a report of gunshots being discharged in the Soldier Road area off of East Street and soon after, a female drove to the Central Detective Unit’s (CDU) headquarters on Thompson Boulevard with a male in the passenger seat of her silver Nissan Tiana suffering from gunshots wounds.

“Our information is that as they were driving along Soldier Road, two males emerged from some bushes on the side of the street in the area just opposite a church,” Officer-in-charge of CDU Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said. “They were wearing black masks over their faces. These men then began firing shots into the vehicle striking the male passenger into the upper body.”

Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene where they examined the body and shortly after pronounced him dead.

The female driver of the victim is currently being held in custody for questioning after authorities allegedly found a handgun in her purse.

“We understand that after the shooting these males got into a white Honda Odyssey and were able to make good their escape,” Mr. Rolle added. “So we appeal to anyone with additional information on this to reach out to us and help us to advance these investigations.”

According to Journal sources, the men are sons of former Bahamian Olympic high jumper Stephen Wray who went missing on a fishing trip back in 2009.

A man who said he witnessed the shooting called into Love 97’s daily talk show “Issues of the Day” yesterday and told host Wendall Jones that he saw the shooting and shared the horror he experienced.

“I witnessed a murder this morning,” he said. “It upset me because I witnessed these two young men fire about eight shots into that car. They came out of a car and then ran back to the car. The victim was sitting in traffic and two of the men went into a car that was set for a getaway. I watched it in my rear view mirror. They pulled up to the car and they fired about eight shots into that car.”

Distraught family members, friends and by passers gathered around the ground of the Central Detective Unit in complete shock as to what had happened. The best friend of the boys’ mother and close family friend uttered to our news team in tears that she was lost for words and did not know what to say.

She said her best friend still has not recovered from the death of her first son.

Chief Superintendent Rolle said they believe that the shooting was not random and the assailants knew who they were targeting. He also added that they are following some significant leads but in the meantime are appealing to anyone that has any information on the matter to reach out to them as soon as possible.
