Police expect to charge at least five men before the courts early this week in connection with a boating tragedy off Abaco, which claimed the lives of 11 Haitians.

Two of the five men are from New Providence, while the remaining three are from Abaco.

Police Press Liaison Officer Inspector Chrislyn Skippings could not confirm the exact day that authorities would bring the men before the courts; however she noted that it would happen, “early this week.”

The group could possibly face smuggling charges as well as reckless endangerment.

It’s been exactly one week since the 25-foot vessel “Glory Time,” capsized near Crown Haven, North Abaco.

Police announced last week that one of the survivors was assisting them with their investigations.

According to police, the boat was carrying 28 people, believed to be Haitian or of Haitian descent.

The ill-fated vessel set sail from Farm Hill near Treasure Cay, Abaco at 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

Three hours later the boat began to experience engine problems and began to take on water.

The vessel eventually sank.

Eleven bodies were retrieved from the water.

Six people are believed to have survived the incident.

The remaining victims are presumed missing or dead.

It is believed that the captain of the vessel is still alive and on the run.

Police released a bulletin for 52-year-old Haitian Chancelaire Baptiste of Treasure Cay, Abaco last week Thursday.
