Detectives were busy yesterday interviewing family members of the young woman shot and killed in her home early yesterday morning.
According to Police Assistant Superintendent B.K. Bonamy, investigators were yesterday conducting a background check on the victim to determine if she were the intended target and what was the motive behind the fatal shooting.
Authorities said Leoneise Jones, 24, was asleep in her bedroom around 2:30 a.m. when an assailant opened fire through the window of her Cedar Way, Yellow Elder Gardens home.
Jones was reportedly hit in the neck. She was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries.
Jones’ death is the second such tragedy to come out of Yellow Elder Gardens in recent days.
Just this past weekend, a man was fatally stabbed during an altercation on Graham Drive.
Investigations are ongoing into both incidents.
