With the help of Bahamas Striping, and its subsidiary, Airport Maintenance Services Ltd, three thousand children from The Urban Renewal Commission will return to the classroom next week with new school bags.
The donation was made at The Urban Renewal Commission’s Back to School Church Service at The Church of God of Prophecy, East Street Tabernacle under the theme ‘Bridging the Gap Towards Excellence: One Child at a Time’.
During the service, various partners and leaders of Urban Renewal addressed the children on the importance of receiving a good education.
Brian Bostock, Training Manager at Bahamas Striping told the children, “Bahamas Striping is pleased to donate these bags, because you are the future of The Bahamas, and in about five to ten years from now, Bahamas Striping will be looking for young people like yourselves to train, but your time spent at school is important, it the time to get your attitudes correct, listen and learn from your teachers, and to be on time.”
President of Airport Maintenance Services Ltd, Atario Mitchell believes in being a good corporate citizen and giving back to the community. He said, “We pride ourselves on doing good work and giving back, and we would like to encourage you, and remind you that education is very important.”
Mitchell urged the children to take their education seriously because it’s not where you start, its where you finish.
He also said, “Your teachers are the vital part in your lives, and the bags are to be a reminder each time you put them on your backs, you can be successful like me.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works & Urban Development, The Hon Phillip Davis thanked Bahamas Striping and Airport Maintenance Services for its donation. He said, “Giving is an expression of gratitude. Gratitude is one of the values that we must instill in all of us, and it is a pleasure to recognize a young Bahamian who has gone into business and is giving back to the community.”
He added,”Bahamas Striping and Airport Maintenance Services is setting the example for other corporate citizens and young Bahamians and on behalf of the Bahamas Government we thank you for your donation.”
