The teen girl who escaped from a police station earlier this week faced a laundry list of charges yesterday.

Acting Chief Magistrate Joyann Pratt-Ferguson made the decision after arraigning the teen on four charges including attempted armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed shotgun namely a Maverick 12-gauge shotgun and possession of seven live rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged that on Friday, August 20, the 15-year-old attempted to rob the Zona Clothing Store in Town Centre Mall.
She was not required to enter a plea to the charges.

The teen racked up another charge after she escaped police custody.

On Monday, the teen hoodwinked officers by telling them she needed to use the bathroom.

In that case, the magistrate asked the teen’s mother how she would plea, to which the woman accidentally responded “guilty.”

The mother however changed her daughter’s plea to “not guilty” after being corrected by attorney Jeffrey Lloyd.

During the hearing, the girl rocked back and forth, prompting Magistrate Pratt-Ferguson to ask why she does it.

She responded that she once saw a psychologist for it, but said she could not remember what the condition was called.

When asked if she could stop, the girl said, “I can, but if I do, it would only start back up.”

Her attorney then asked that she be allowed to see a psychiatrist.

However, an issue arose in determining where the teen would be remanded.

Mr. Lloyd requested his client be sent to Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre.

However, the magistrate said considering that the girl had already escaped police custody at the Grove Police Station, she was uncertain if Sandilands would be able to secure her.

The matter has been adjourned until September 13th for a status hearing.
