One of the men who were allegedly a part of last week’s bank robbery in New Providence has been captured, while two of three men who held up a bank in Long Island are still on the lam.
Police worked throughout the holiday weekend to find the duo, but were unsuccessful.
Last Thursday at 10:00 a.m. three men robbed Scotia Bank in Long Island.
An hour later, two men held up CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank at the Mall at Marathon.
Police captured one of the robbers connected to the Long Island heist on Thursday, but the other two suspects managed to escape on board a speed boat.
The men escaped with all the money they stole.
As for the second robbery, police managed to nab one of the two robbers just moments after the robbery.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson confirmed that the second robber was captured 24 hours later.
All of the stolen cash from the second bank robbery has been recovered.
Police have still not confirmed the amount of monies initially stolen from both banks.
Ahead of the holiday weekend, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said that police were confident that they would be able to capture the remaining two culprits behind the Long Island robbery.
Police Press Liaison Inspector Chrislyn Skippings confirmed yesterday that the search continues.
Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade has called on residents on both islands to come forward with any relevant information that could solve both cases.
“There are families in this country who know precisely what is going on. There are members of our communities who know exactly where those bank robbers are. Turn them in. If you are as serious as I am about fighting crime, then turn them in,” he said.
“It’s the peoples’ money and the banks’ money and it’s a crime what they have done so please we ask you to turn those criminals in. All of us must take an active role and play an active role in returning our communities in this country to the peaceful communities that they once were.”
ACP Ferguson agreed.
“We are very serious in this fight against crime and criminality. We want criminals to know that we are alert and we want you to know that there are no soft spots anywhere in The Bahamas. We have information that we are working with and we expect that we will be able to capture these criminals within only a matter of time,” he said.
