A Canadian man traveling to The Bahamas  from London, was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrects for alleged drug possession. 

Reginald Merritt’s intended stay in the Bahamas was interrupted  after he was arrested  for possession of dangerous drugs at the Lynden Pindling International Airport last Thursday.

Merritt was charged before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The 54 year old Montreal resident was arraigned  on four counts related to the incident.

Appearing before Magistrate Samuel McKinney,  it is alleged that Merritt on December 27  had  in his possession dangerous drugs  with the intent to supply, namely Heroin.  The  weight of drugs was  9 pounds 5 ounces.

He  was further charged with importation of dangerous drugs. It is alleged that on the same date, Merritt did import heroin into the country.

As for the third count, the Canadian was charged with conspiracy to possess dangerous drugs with the intent to supply. It is alleged that between December 19 and 27 being concerned with another, did conspire to possess a quantity of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

Merritt was further charged with conspiracy to import dangerous drugs namely heroin.

It is also alleged that between  December 19 and December 27 being concerned with others did conspire to bring in to the country dangerous drugs.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was subsequently remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections until February 5, 2019.
