A Lyford Cay resident hanged himself in his home yesterday evening, police have confirmed.
The 54-year-old Canoe Way resident, whose identity is being withheld, was discovered shortly after 6:00 p.m. with a rope tied around his neck.
According to Police Superintendent Stephen Dean, a neighbour discovered the victim.
At this time police say they do not know what led the victim to kill himself.
This is just the latest suicide to take place in the country.
Last month, an American teen who was vacationing at the Bimini Sands Hotel killed himself.
Sixteen-year-old Logan Daniel Herr went missing and was later discovered with a rope around his neck and hanging from a tree.
When police arrived on the scene they found the boy’s body in one of the hotel’s gardens.
Last month, a 22-year-old man also shot his female companion and later shot and killed himself on Cox Way off East Street.
The incident happened on July 13.
Man Shot Near Basketball Court
A Grand Bahama man is in serious condition after being shot near a basketball court on Bruce Avenue late Monday night, police said.
The incident happened at 11:54 p.m.
Police said the victim was shot and later fled on foot.
When police got on the scene they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Drug Bust At LPIA
A 29-year-old Jamaican man was arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) yesterday after being busted with two-and-a-half kilos of suspected cocaine, police said.
Officers of the Airport Police Station arrested the Pinewood Gardens resident around 12:30 p.m. yesterday at Bahamas Customs’ arrival section.
The drugs weighed just over four-and-a-half pounds and have an estimated street value of $64,000.
Police Search For Wanted Man
Police are searching for 26-year old Prince Dean aka Philip Dean of Roses, Long Island.
Authorities want to question Dean in reference to a number of house break-ins and shop break-ins and escape.
Dean has a light brown complexion, medium build and stands just under six feet tall.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police in Long Island at 337-0999 or 919.
Police Find Firearms
Police found two handguns along with a quantity of ammunition from bushes off Mason Street West yesterday.
Officers got a tip yesterday afternoon and went to Mason Street West. It was there that they uncovered the items.
No arrests were made.
