The holiday afternoon was disturbed yesterday as gunmen opened fire in the Montell Heights area leaving two people wounded.
Police quickly apprehended on of the suspects involved in that shootout who was found in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle.
Reports are that shortly after 1:00 p.m. Monday, police received a report of gunshots being fired in the Montell Height area by a group of men that resulted in a woman and a young boy being shot.
The victims’ injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The suspects fled before police arrived on the scene.
Responding officers from the Selective Enforcement Team and Mobile Division intercepted the suspect running across the East West Highway with an AK 47 Assault rifle.
The officers engaged the suspect and he dropped the weapon.
He was then arrested and the weapon was recovered.
The two victims were transported to hospital where they are detained in stable condition.
Police have launched an island-wide manhunt for the remaining suspects.
Investigations are ongoing.
