Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) officers on board patrol craft, HMBS Rolly Gray, made quite a large drug haul, putting a “hefty dent in the illegal narcotics supply,” according to RBDF officials yesterday.
Three persons were arrested in connection with this recent find.
Authorities said while the HMBS Rolly Gray was on a routine patrol in the southwestern Bahamas early Monday morning, in the area of Cay Lobos, the Defence Force vessel spotted and intercepted a 28-foot blue and white go-fast vessel.
Upon searching the vessel, which was done by the Rolly Gray boarding team, the officers found a large supply of contraband, which is believed to be marijuana, on board.
The three men on board, two Bahamians and one Jamaican, were subsequently apprehended and their contraband seized.
The drugs, which weigh just over 1,000 pounds has an estimated street value of over one million dollars, according to the reports.
The men and contraband were handed over to officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Drug Enforcement Unit for further processing.
According to RBDF officials, this “arrest is the result of the consistent efforts of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and their strategic intent to rid the Bahamian waters of illicit transnational activities that threatens the security of The Bahamas.”
