Authorities in Grand Bahama found human skeletal remains in bushes in the Heritage Subdivision area on Wednesday.
A team of Central Detective Unit (CDU) officers was dispatched to the scene.
Doctors and EMS personnel also confirmed the remains are human.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Police believe the remains were at that location for an extended period of time.

American Visitor Dies
An American visitor has died following a snorkelling expedition with UNEXSO.
Police said the man was taken to the Rand Memorial Hospital in an unresponsive state.
During the expedition the visitor experienced complications and returned to the surface.
He received CPR and was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
