Police shot a 47-year-old armed robbery suspect Tuesday after he aimed his shotgun at an officer, police said yesterday.
The suspect is in hospital under heavy police guard.
A woman called police at 4:00 p.m. to report that a man with a shotgun had held her up in her Market Street convenience store.
He robbed her of some money before escaping on foot.
A short while later a police officer on patrol spotted the suspect in the nearby area attempting to rob a man of his Mitsubishi vehicle.
The suspect, upon spotting the police officer, pointed his gun in the officer’s direction.
Police said the officer, in fear of his life, shot the suspect and was able to recover a shotgun along with the stolen cash.
The suspect was taken to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.
In other crime news, three men, 25, 20 and 19, were arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm on Tuesday.
Officers from the Fire Branch went to the Sarah Mary Road, Millennium Gardens area and searched the three men.
Police said they found a handgun in their possession.
The three men were taken into custody and are expected to be charged later this week.
