Three men and a woman were charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with Monday’s $1 million drug bust in Mastic Point, Andros.
The four accused were 45-year-old Reginal Martin, 51-year-old Yorrick Gibson, 19-year-old Eric Christopher Riley and 48-year-old Patrice Dorsett all of Mastic Point.
They appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
The group was charged with importation and conspiracy to import dangerous drugs, as well as possession and conspiracy to possess with the intent to supply.
Martin faced an additional possession and conspiracy charge, while Gibson was charged with assault with a deadly instrument.
According to police reports, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) around 3 a.m. on Monday responded to information that led them to the Mastic Point area in Andros.
Upon arrival, officers subsequently seized a white F-150 truck containing almost 1,000 pounds of marijuana.
In court on Thursday, Martin alone pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to nine years in prison, to be served consecutively.
The remaining suspects pleaded not guilty, but were denied bail and remanded to The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until their trial hearing on September 9 or 10, 2015 at 10 a.m.
