It looked like something out of a James Bond film except it was not make believe.
A suspected robber attempted to evade arrest, took police officers on a high speed chase through the downtown area Tuesday morning.
But the would be getaway was quickly foiled and the chase came to an abrupt end when the suspect lost control of the Honda Accord vehicle he had stolen to make his getaway and he eventually crashed into a parked vehicle at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) before countless hospital staff and passersby.
The man then got out the vehicle and ran in the direction of the Maternity Ward.
However, police officers with some assistance from hospital security quickly subdued him and he was subsequently arrested.
Both vehicles were damaged and the man appeared to have some minor injuries.
Police also retrieved the stolen cash and goods.
Just before 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect allegedly robbed a jewelry store in downtown.
The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) issued a statement yesterday afternoon assuring that at no time were the lives of its staff members or patients in harm’s way.
“Management commends the security team for their work in securing the facility, and well being of its patients and staff during the incident,” the statement read.
“Hospital security officials are working with the members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) in their investigation of this incident.”
The man is now in police custody.
