Mr. Rose held a briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs Darren Henfield on Saturday where he provided an update on the storm and the security of Bahamains.
Mr. Rose said he will continue to brief Minister Henfield and the Ministry throughout the upcoming days, in order to report on impact to Bahamians in Texas and nearby states.
He also urged others who may find themselves in need of assistance or distress in the upcoming days to make contact with him through the avenues he has already provided them.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on Texas around 10 p.m. CDT, on August 25, as a category four storm.
As of press time, it had been downgraded to a tropical storm. However, it has the potential to produce 15-25 inches of rain over the state, and dump as much as 40 inches of rain over isolated areas of Texas, bringing the possibility of life-threatening flooding.
Thus far, Harvey has left parts of Texas drenched with torrential rains expected to continue early this week.
Authorities in and around Houston scrambled to save those trapped by high waters from the extreme flooding this storm has left overburdening resources.
Notwithstanding the effects Harvey has left the people of Texas, there are still hopes for an immediate respite from Harvey’s wrath.
According to the National Weather Service, this flooding is considered “unprecedented” and warns that things may become dire if a record breaking 50 inches of rain continues to fall on parts of Texas.
The rainfall threatens to exacerbate an already dangerous situation, as Harvey’s rains have left many east Texas Rivers and bayous swollen to their banks or beyond.
It is expected that catastrophic flooding is underway of the course of days
Thus far, Harvey has been fatal; the storm has already killed two people in Texas and it is believed that the death toll will likely rise, according to CNN.
