Another police officer found himself standing in the magistrate’s court yesterday facing a charge.
Twenty- nine-year-old Police Constable 3082 Lawrence Bastian of the Mobile Division stood before Magistrate Guillimina Archer facing one charge of indecent assault.
Court dockets indicate that on Tuesday the February 12th, Officer Bastian committed the indecent assault on an 11-year-old girl.
According to police sources, the man had oral sex with the girl.
In the courtroom, the officer pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution said that they had no objection to bail.
However, they asked that if granted bail, Officer Bastian should be given a monitoring device as he tried to escape police custody by jumping out of a window at the mobile division’s office.
Magistrate Archer then extended bail to the defendant set at $6,000 with one surety on the condition that he wears a monitoring device at all times and have no contact with the complainant or her family.
The matter was adjourned until July 16th where he will return to the magistrate’s court.
The constable is just one of many law enforcement officers that found themselves on the wrong side of the law within the past few months.
Just two weeks ago, a Defense Force officer was caught with cocaine and before that a female police officer was caught while on duty with a large amount of cocaine.
