Three Weekend Murders

Police are yet again seeking the public’s assistance in their investigations after a bloody weekend left three people – two men and one woman – dead in separate attacks.

In what appears to be the most gruesome of the three, the Bahama Journal received reports of a woman whose throat was slit and her body left in a vehicle that was found through an unpaved road off Cowpen Road.

However, police have not confirmed reports that the victim’s throat was slashed and only noted that she died due to gunshot injuries.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said according to reports, yesterday morning police officers found a female with multiple gunshot wounds to the body, inside a vehicle that was parked in bushes in the Bonefish Pond area.

According to officials, the body appeared to have been at the scene for several hours.

“Sometime after 7:00 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle seen about a quarter of mile off Cowpen Road, responding officers along with investigators, upon arrival at the scene discovered the body of a female lying in the passenger seat,” ACP Ferguson said.

“EMS personnel examined the body and discovered that there were no vital signs of life, we don’t have much details other than the fact that a body was discovered in a grey Honda Accord. I wish to appeal to the public who may have any information concerning the circumstances surrounding how this vehicle ending up in this location and persons who may have any information about the identification of the female, there may be members of the public who have a relative that is missing and we appeal to you to make a report to police as soon as possible.”

When The Journal arrived on the scene the body was still in the Honda, which, according to the registration disc is registered to Kendal Cartwright.

The licence plate number is 226764.

According to reports the victim is a 19-year-old woman who’s name The Journal will withhold until police confirmation.

A man who lives in the area watched as a wrecker pulled the vehicle from bushes and EMS personnel retrieved and bagged the body for a waiting hearse.

He said it is terrifying to know that such a crime came so close his door which is only a two minute walk from the scene.
He described the incident as gruesome, adding that blood covered the victim’s back and was everywhere in the car.

“When I came out, I saw a car and notified the police then went back home but when I came back out, I went and looked into the car, I noticed a body was in the car slumped forward so when I went and called the police back , I told them to send an ambulance and a patrol car immediately because I didn’t know if the person was living or dead.” He said.

He added that this is the first time such a crime ever occurred in that particular area and that his family and members of the community are now in fear for their lives and safety.

“I would just love for the government and the law enforcement to really crack down on crime and try to get it to stop and I really wish they find the person who did it and put them to justice,” the neighbour added. “They really need to start doing something with these murderers, at least start hanging them. We don’t have crime watch and security so I’ll appreciate if they could come through often and check out the areas.”

Just hours before this murder was reported, another was recorded around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

Police officers from the South Beach Police Station responded to a report and found the lifeless body of a male in the drive way of a residence on Haven and Red Sea Roads in the Redland Acres area.

According to Mr. Ferguson the male suffered gunshot injuries to the upper body and EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim is still unknown.

A third murder was recorded this weekend when on Friday, shortly before 11:00 p.m. a male was shot to death.

According to reports, the victim was at Kings Barr located on Washington Street and Robinson Road, when a man armed with a handgun walked in and shot him to the body.

The victim, who has reportedly been identified as Romeo Lynes was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing into these matters.
