Two years after being elected government of The Bahamas, the Christie Administration still has no direction for how to lead the country, according to Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Leader Branville McCartney.
In a press statement yesterday Mr. McCartney said the government should not be celebrating this milestone as they are a “classic ad hoc government” that exudes incompetence at its best.
Next Wednesday, May 7, will make two years since the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) won control of the government after a historic election that saw a third major party run candidates in all 38 seats.
The PLP ousted the Free National Movement (FNM) winning 30 of the 38 seats in parliament.
Mr. McCartney said within the past two years, the government has proven nothing but their inability to successfully run the country.
According to the DNA leader, their PLP’s massive campaign for a safer Bahamas has proven fruitless and said Urban Renewal 2.0 has no impact and called Operation Safe Bahamas is ineffective.
He said when it comes to fighting illegal migration, more technology would have been helpful as opposed to the government borrowing $232 million for defense force vessels.
Mr. McCartney said quite frankly there are even more Bahamians unemployed than in 2012 despite Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis promising that they would create 10,000 new jobs within the first year.
When it comes to the government’s mortgage relief plan, Mr. McCartney called it “a total disaster.”
According to the DNA leader, the government is making no plans for the future leaders of the country as the young leaders within their own party have gone silent.
He said “young people off in college or going to college say they will not return to The Bahamas because of lack of opportunity.”
Leading to the country’s continued brain drain continues.
According to Mr. McCartney, the sagas surrounding BTC, web shops and Value Added Tax (VAT) are also major disappointments.
Mr. McCartney said the PLP has undoubtedly done nothing they promised on the campaign trail.
Meanwhile, the DNA’s Deputy Leader Christopher Mortimer hit at the government’s fiscal solutions for the country.
He said, the past two years of PLP governance in The Bahamas has been plagued by a slew of economic miscalculations, rapid increases in the country’s national debt, reckless spending and countless broken promises.
The time has come for the government to advance a focused national development strategy; one which addresses the country’s current challenges such as insufficient Bahamian ownership, insufficient private sector activity, high energy costs and the even higher cost of living,” he said.
