Broadcast editor at NB12 Juan McCartney and Nassau Guardian reporter Travis Cartwright-Carroll had to appear in the Supreme Court before Justice Bernard Turner Tuesday to explain why an erroneous story was broadcast in that station’s Monday night newscast and published in the newspaper concerning the ongoing Kofhe Goodman murder trial.
The inaccurate reports noted that the jury was shown crime scene photos of the naked decomposing body of 11-year-old Marco Archer.
However, Sergeant James Colebrooke who was on the stand at the time the photos were being shown, never specifically referred to Marco Archer when describing a dead body that was discovered the same day Archer was found.
The erroneous story was also published in the Tuesday April 23, 2013 publication of The Nassau Guardian, written by Mr. Cartwright-Carroll under the headline, “Officer tells of discovery of Marco Archer’s body.”
An apology for the incorrect newspaper article was published in yesterday’s Nassau Guardian and a verbal apology was also issued on NB 12 Tuesday night.
McCartney apologised to the court for the mistake.
