Increasing health awareness through the business community is one of the objectives behind the first annual Fun Run Walk sponsored by The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers’ Confederation (BCCEC) and the Organisation of Young Professionals (OYP).
The event takes place on November 3 and features a five-mile walk.
Chairman of OYP Valentino Munroe said the event is designed to promote the balance of work and healthy living.
“We are really looking to encourage more of the corporate community to register their staff and encourage them to become involved a good healthy initiative to encourage a good balance within their professional lives,” he said.
Mr. Munroe said healthy living goes hand in hand with professional growth and he encouraged professionals to take their health as seriously as they do their careers.
“The professional who looks good feels good and if you feel good you will be able to perform well. Certainly your health is not just internal; it’s the physical as well and all of us should want to be within our weight limits so that we can be properly balanced,” said Mr. Munroe.
The route for runners starts at Montagu Park, north on to Village Road then west on to Shirley Street, north on to Parliament Street, east on Bay Street, across the western Paradise Island Bridge , east on Paradise Island across the eastern Paradise Island Bridge, east on East Bay Street and end at Montagu Park.
Participants walking in the event will begin at Montagu Park then north on to Village Road, west on to Shirley Street, north on Parliament Street, east on Bay Street and end at Montagu Park.
Proceeds from the event will go toward raising funds for BCCEC and the LEAD Institute.
Organisers are encouraging companies to sponsor their employees for the event; however, participants can still sign up individually.
The fun run walk takes place Saturday, November 3 at 6:00 a.m. at Montagu Park.
