Two men were killed in two separate incidents over the weekend bringing the country’s murder count to 44 for the year, according to Journal records.
In the first incident shortly after midnight Sunday, police on patrol saw smoke coming from a vehicle in the parking lot of the old City Market building, located off Market Street north.
During an examination of the vehicle, police found the lifeless body of a man with gunshot wounds.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police are searching for a light blue Honda vehicle that was seen leaving the scene.
Then shortly before 1:00a.m., Sunday, police received reports of a stabbing incident outside a nightclub on West Bay Street.
When police arrived on the scene they met a man suffering from stab wounds to the body.
The victim was then rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A man is in custody assisting police with investigations into this incident.
