An American couple’s pleasure cruise to The Bahamas was cut short after they were arrested and charged with failing to declare firearms and ammunition.
Police said they searched a pleasure boat moored at East Bay Street shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday and found two rifles that Randal Tim, 57 and his wife Traci Justice Tim, 43, failed to declare upon entering The Bahamas.
The Florida residents were taken into custody and handed over to police for further investigations.
On Monday, the couple appeared before Customs Comptroller Charles Turner, where they elected to have their case heard.
The couple was charged with failure to declare two of the five firearms found in their possession and fined $5,000.
Their cruise permit for travel within the territory of The Bahamas was also cancelled and a seize order was placed on their vessel for three days to facilitate some minor repairs to the vessel.
All of the weapons were ordered confiscated and condemned.
Police meantime arrested a 41-year-old Georgia resident on drug charges.
Acting on intelligence, officers went to a cruise ship moored at Prince George Dock, where they arrested the suspect after he was found with a quantity of marijuana.
The man is expected in court later this week to be formally charged.
