U.S. Embassy Applauds New BEC Management

Following Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis’ announcement of PowerSecure International’s selection as the preferred bidder to manage the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), U.S. Charge d’Affaires Lisa Johnson said she and the embassy are in agreement.

“The U.S. Embassy in The Bahamas applauds Deputy Prime Minister Davis’ announcement that the government has agreed to engage in final negotiations with U.S.-based PowerSecure on the content of an agreement to restructure and manage the Bahamas Electricity Corporation,” she said.

“We are confident that PowerSecure’s proposal offers innovative management strategies that will provide the efficiency and
cost-savings required to advance The Bahamas’ energy reform agenda and that PowerSecure’s dedication to emerging technologies will unlock additional opportunities for renewable energy in The Bahamas.”

The Deputy Prime Minister during his announcement said the government will deliver to the country a 100 per cent Bahamian owned, world class electrical utility, offering customers affordable and reliable power, and improved customer service.
PowerSecure specializes in utility scale solar power through its subsidiary PowerSecure Solar and has provided both solar and storm hardening services to multiple utility customers. Of particular note is its efficient mobilization of resources for every named storm in the U.S. in the last five years.
