Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers yesterday seized more than a million dollars of drugs and arrested two men in connection with this latest find.
According to police, it was around 9:15 a.m., Sunday when officers uncovered 52 packages of marijuana at a residence off Tonique Darling Highway in the area of Pikkano properties.
The total weight of the marijuana found was 1,389 pounds with an estimated street value of $1,389,000.
“We have two Bahamian males in custody, aged 41 and 34 and we will continue to follow due process sin this matter,” said head of the DEU Chief Superintendent Sammuel Butler.
When police arrived at the three story residence, DEU officers say the two males were occupying the home at the time.
“We are early in our investigations, we are certainly looking forward to widening our net and bringing more persons into custody base don our intelligence.
This month the Royal Bahamas Police Force is celebrating International Day Against Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking, Superintendent Butler says this shows the public that police are meeting their set mandates.
“It marks a great dent in our efforts of moving drugs from the streets, moving the availability of drugs from our communities,” he said.
“Earlier in the year, he gave us a mandate to go against every drug trafficking network in The Bahamas and we have been very successful this year and we are very pleased in our efforts,” he said.
“When we are able to stop it at this point, we are certainly creating the impact that we so desire.”
Officers say these persons were known to the criminal justice system and were therefore a target.
When DEU officers led the media towards the seized contraband, a bathroom with dozens of croak sacks full of marijuana could seen along with several bins filled with the seized contraband.
It was revealed to us that the owner of the property was currently in Abaco at the time of the drug bust.
Officers are asking anyone with information in this matter to please come forward as soon as possible.
