Relief assistance continues to pour in weeks after Hurricane Matthew, this time to residents of Central Andros.
The Island Game Foundation, through its CEO Pete Deveaux and brand Ambassador of the Island Game Foundation Miss World Bahamas, Ashley Hamilton brought relief to the Central Andros area, providing residents with food and cleaning supplies
A descendant of Andros, Mr. Deveaux noted the lack of economic activity in the country’s largest island geographically also noting that as a descendant of the soil it was natural for him to provide relief.
“Andros is near and dear to my heart because my father is from Andros. I am a son of the soil, so to help the people of Andros… that comes natural. Although Andros is geographically our biggest island, it has very little economic activity, so we just had to come down and do a little something for the people here,” Mr. Deveaux said.
Through a combined effort with Island Wholesale and Grace Products, Bahamas Wholesale Agencies, Thompson Trading and Aquapure, The Island Game Foundation provided over $15,000 worth of goods to locals throughout Central Andros.
The Foundation built on the core principles of Transforming, Improving, and Growing a better Bahamas gave care packages that included grits, water, crackers, tuna and cleaning supplies including bleach, to over 400 households in Central Andros.
“These are indeed hard times here and it’s going to take some time to return to normalcy here.
“The Island Game Foundation is about building communities and assisting where necessary. Assisting Andros is a given,” Mr. Deveaux said.
Ashley Hamilton, Miss World Bahamas and the brand Ambassador for Island game noted that she learned firsthand what the residents of Central Andros needed during an assessment and formulated a plan to assist.
“We sat in the Island Games Foundation office and said, ‘What can we do to help the residents of Andros,’ so we formulated a plan to put together care packages.
“It was two weeks of hard work organizing, but the joy on the faces; knowing that someone cares dorm them, was well worth it,” Ms. Hamilton said.
One resident of Staniard Creek, Dianne Seibert acknowledged that the efforts of Island Game is a relief and expressed gratitude for the assistance.
“This is a great help to us and we are very thankful to the Island Game for assisting us in this way,” Ms. Seibert said.
The Island Game Foundation, and Miss World Bahamas as a brand Ambassador, will continue to work in collaboration on various charitable projects.
