Police officials yesterday responded to calls in the Pinewood area just off Thatch Palm Avenue where they found the bullet riddled body of a dark male lying in the street.
According to officials, the driver of a silver Nissan Skyline pulled up to Walnut Street shortly after 8:00 a.m. where a white van was allegedly waiting for him with three male assailants.
Chief Superintendent and Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) Ashton Greenslade spoke with reporters on the scene.
“Once the Skyline parked, occupants of the white van, three males all armed with firearms, approached the vehicle,” he said.
“The driver attempted to flee. He was shot multiple times by the occupants of the vehicle where he collapsed on the side of the road.”
Area residents, who wished to remain anonymous, said they initially thought the sound of gunshots were nothing more than firecrackers but upon going outside, that was a different story.
“When I came outside I saw a gentleman outside lying on the ground and I ran over and there were bullet shots to his head,” said a female resident.
“This is a community where everyone looks out for one another; the young man does not live in this area.”
“I was supposed to be at work,” said another resident.
“I heard this noise while I was cooking, saw birds but I did not want to go outside because I did not want to get shot.”
Another resident said she does not know her community to be this way and it makes her wonder.
“I only heard the gunshots. I was in my bedroom,” she said.
“This is the first time anything has happened like this in this area for years and I heard he does not live through here.”
The woman, who lived just two doors down from where the shooting occurred, said that particular part of the street is not an area where a lot of young people hang out.
She said the area was more so accustomed to older individuals, who are normally at work during the day.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist in solving this crime to come forward.
“We do not know anything about the victim at this time other than he was wearing jeans pants and a red top,” Superintendent Greenslade said.
Officials also could not give any information on whether or not the victim was being electronically monitored.
