A 16-year-old boy is in police custody for gun possession after he was arrested for the incident on Wednesday.
According to reports, shortly before 8:00 p.m., police received a report of gunshots being fired in the area of Lightbourne Street in Yellow Elder Gardens.
Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) responded, where they saw the boy with a handgun in his waist.
When the boy saw the police he threw the handgun to the ground and ran.
The officers chased and arrested him.
The handgun was confiscated and also contained a quantity of ammunition.
The suspect is expected to appear in court sometime today to be formally charged.
According to the police’s website, so far this year they have taken 242 firearms off the streets and confiscated more than 3,375 rounds of ammunition.
Meanwhile, police are seeking your help solving a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday.
According to reports, shortly before midnight, police received a report of a man being shot through Willow Tree Street in Pinewood Gardens.
A short while later the victim turned up to the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the knee.
His injury is listed as non-life threatening.
Investigations are ongoing.
