Police Press Liason Officer Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings released a
statement on Wednesday in an effort to rebuff and deny at least two social media
posts that are being circulated and spreading false information in relation to Chief
Superintendant Michael Johnson the former head of the Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) who is on garden leave while under investigation for corruption
and bribery.
Chief Supt. Skippings said, “The Commissioner of Police (COP) wishes to remind
members of the public that the investigation into the voice notes are ongoing, and
that Chief Superintendent Johnson remains on garden leave and will remain until
the conclusion of the investigation.”
She was responding to a post circulating on WhatsApp with the name of a popular
local personality at the top who shared a list of purported transfers within the
Royal Bahama Police Force (RBPF) that included Chief Supt. Johnson being
transferred from the said CID to Police Headquarters Commissioners Office on
August 7 th 2024.
In addition to the transfer list the post also suggested that the investigation
regarding Johnson was “apparently already done” and Johnson was transferred to
work at headquarters “to be closer to the COP.”
According to Skippings the transfer from CID to the headquarters is standard
procedure while an officer is on garden leave and under investigation until the
investigation has been completed.
According to the police there is also a photo in circulation on social media of Chief
Supt. Skipping at a crime scene with Chief Supt. Johnson standing in the
background with the person posting the photo suggesting that it is a recent photo
and that Johnson is back on the job.
For clarity Chief Supt. Skippings said, “in addition to the foregoing, there is in
circulation a dated photo depicting myself Chief Supt. Chrislyn Skippings and
Chief Supt. Johnson at a crime scene. The media and general public is hereby
advised that this is a dated photo and it does not reflect the current status of Chief
Supt. Michael Johnson.”
The controversial case hit in early July when voice notes alluding to a $200,000.00
bribery scheme involving Johnson, two alleged criminals and a local lawyer
surfaced in relation to the November 2023 $1.5 million armored truck robbery at
Odyssey Airport, and the possibility of having the charges and wanted posters for
the suspects erased.
