Amidst the recent turmoil of the Free National Movement (FNM) Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Bradley Roberts says what the six members of Parliament are attempting to do is “a recipe for disaster.”
“It goes against the grain of all that is right and proper. They want to impose their will on the majority. That is a recipe for disaster,” he said while appearing on the Love 97 talk show ‘Issue of the Day’.
“The wounds that this has created I think it will take a long time for those to heal and I’m sorry for them. I hope that they are able to come to a common accord.”
Recently, there have been reports that an attempt has been made to have Dr. Minnis replaced as leader of the opposition.
The MPs have given, according to sources, an ultimatum demanding that Dr. Minnis call for a party convention to take place within the next 30 days or they will move to elect a new opposition leader.
According to sources, there are six MPs that have proposed this ultimatum.
These MPs include Dr. Rollins Long Island MP Loretta Butler-Turner, St. Anne’s MP Hubert Chipman, Central Grand Bahama MP Neko Grant, Montagu MP Richard Lightbourn and North Eleuthera MP Theo Neilly.
According to the source, the MPs will take a no confidence vote if Dr. Minnis fails to set the convention.
The FNM plans to hold a council meeting on Thursday to decide an official date for the convention.
Mr. Roberts not only spoke to the current state of the FNM but he also voiced his disgust with newcomer to the FNM and recent PLP Dr. Andre Rollins.
“He was a disaster as a Member of Parliament. One has to simply go into the constituency of Fort Charlotte and listen to the people. He completely fooled us as to his real intent and purpose,” he said.
“I get the clear impression that he is a very lazy young man and he is not concerned about the welfare and interest of the constituents who elected him.”
“That’s why the cry went out very loud and they begged for and asked for Alfred sears to return. Dr. Rollins would stand not stand a chance of being reelected in Fort Charlotte.”
Dr. Rollins made comments this past weekend on one of his social media platforms and said if Dr. Minnis has what it takes to become prime minister then he will prove himself to be the most fit lead.
Dr. Rollins went on to say that conventions are a democracy and leaders should never be afraid to “allow democracy to reign.”
Sources have revealed that Dr. Minnis still has the support of the Deputy leader and MP for East Grand Bahama Peter Turnquest, South Abaco MP Edison Key and Bamboo Town MP Renward Wells.
Dr. Rollins wishes to gain the support of the party and has already approached Mr. Wells about supporting however to no avail and he also opposes Loretta Butler-Turner.
Dr. Rollins joined the FNM late last year after leaving the PLP in June stating that he no longer felt wanted in the party.
