Police officials said they are on a mission to clamp down on an issue that has plagued the capital for weeks the capital, causing public concern to mount on what seems to be a growing trend –females becoming victims of sexual attacks island wide.
In an effort to curb these incidents, police officials reported Tuesday that they have two men in custody following two separate rape incidents in New Providence.
Reports are that shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday officers from the Flying Squad, acting on intelligence arrested a 21-year-old male of Bernard Road.
This suspect is accused of a rape that occurred in the Kemp Road area.
Just 30 minutes after that arrest, the Flying Squad then arrested another rape accused, a 27-year-old man of Apache Alley.
Police have not released where they believe this second suspect committed the crime, nor have they released any specifics details on the matter.
These arrests come on the heels of a rape which occurred early Monday morning when a man jumped into the backseat of a woman’s car and forced her to drive him to a tract road off Bacardi Road where police say he assaulted her.
Recent statistics show that so far for the year 33 bail applications for rape or attempted rape were filed.
Thirteen were granted while five have been denied.
Man Shot, Hospitalised
Police are seeking the public’s help in solving a shooting incident that left a man detained in hospital Monday night.
According to reports shortly after 9:00 p.m., a man was sitting on his motorbike at Williams Lane, when the occupants of a white Honda Odyssey van shot him in the thigh and sped off.
The victim was taken to hospital, where his condition is listed as stable.
