An alleged armed robber was shot and killed early Sunday morning by police officials who are still searching for his accomplice.
According to police reports, the man was in the midst of robbing a male victim he was holding hostage when police got a tip and approached him around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
“Police responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Columbus Primary School playing field, Collins Avenue and observed two men walking on Hampton Street armed with a handgun holding a male victim hostage,” they said. “As police approached the men, one of the suspects raised and pointed a handgun at the officers.”
Allegedly fearing for their lives, the police on the scene shot the man, who died on the scene.
The other suspect, they said, fled on foot.
Police also reported that they recovered a handgun at the scene.
Meantime in Grand Bahama police there arrested a man early Friday morning, after he was caught with a high powered machine gun.
Police there said it was around 9:00 a.m. Friday when officers on mobile patrol on East Sunrise Highway, saw a male acting suspicious.
They said the suspect, upon seeing the officers, ran into bushes between
Coral Gardens and Seahorse Village with what appeared to be a firearm in his
hand.
The reported that the officers chased the suspect and apprehended him, only to recover a black Mac-10 sub-machine gun.
The suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.
Active police investigations are ongoing into both matters.
