A man suspected of trying to steal hundreds of feet of copper wire from the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) managed to get away last week but, police were able to recover the would-be stolen goods.
According to reports, shortly before 3:00 a.m. last Wednesday, officers from the Southwestern Division were on routine patrol on Rocky Pine Road when they observed a man loading the copper wire into a Toyota vehicle with the license plate number 216626.
The man fled when he saw the officers approaching.
Police conducted inquiries in the area and found that the copper wire was stolen from a nearby BTC overhead and ground connection.
Police also said they know who the suspect is and hope to arrest him “very soon.”
Last year, there were several incidents where people managed to steal copper wire from BTC.
In January 2013, police reported that some unknown persons entered a BTC cell site in Pelican Point, Grand Bahama and stole 150 feet of black 30DD electrical ground wire valued at $1,050.00.
No one was ever arrested for that matter.
