A police constable found himself on the wrong side of the law yesterday as he appeared in the magistrate’s court to face charges of unlawful harm.
Police Constable Trevor Cox appeared before Magistrate Caroline Evans yesterday on one charge of causing harm.
It is reported that on Thursday, March 28th at the Grove Police Station, Officer Cox caused harm to Carrington Dean.
While details surrounding the incident were not readily available in court, police sources told the Bahama Journal that Mr. Dean was at Christie Park with his family when officers approached him asking questions about an incident that happened in the area.
The victim denied knowing anything about the situation but, according to our sources was taken into custody anyway.
While being held at the Grove Police Station and being questioned sources said that’s when things may have gotten out of hand on the police’s end, which resulted in Officer Cox allegedly causing harm to the victim.
Sources also said that Cox beat Mr. Dean on his buttocks with a cutlass.
In the courtroom the defendant, represented by Attorney Mary Cox, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the prosecution had no objection to bail which was set at $3,000 with one or two sureties.
The sureties were present and Officer Cox was expected to be released as soon as the bail was signed last evening.
He is expected to return to court on Friday April 26th at noon where the case will continue.
