What does it take? How did he achieve it all? And how can we achieve similar successes?
That’s what we’ll explore in this tri-weekly series. We’ll break down fashion mogul Peter Nygard’s achievements and look at how his accomplishments can serve as practical applications to others in business and life.
Esteemed Around The World
What does it take to experience remarkable financial success, get the attention of your country’s government and become beloved by countries around the world?
It takes a unique combination of qualities that makes you conduct business in a way that leads to inevitable success. That’s how you do it.
His business approach, his personal philosophy, and his strategic thinking ability, fashion mogul Peter Nygard brought them all to the table. This is what created a domino effect of success in distinct areas of his life.
He approaches everything from a comprehensive perspective. In addition to going against the grain in industry practices, Nygard figured out how to think and act strategically with every aspect of his new business.
It wasn’t just his success at home that garnered him the respect of the Canadian Government on the issue of free trade; itwas also the business relationships he had already established around the world and the respect he received from various leaders.
Yes, he successfully improved internal operations and transformed his company into an industry leader in technology; however, a key component to Peter Nygard’s exponential success is the way he conducted business in foreign countries.
His nature is always kindheartedness. So whether operating in Canada, The Bahamas or elsewhere, he seeks to ‘share his toast’ or find ways to improve the lives of others.
So how did he manage to gain the respect of leaders from around the world?
Well, here’s an example from one country that explains how he conducts business.
On one of Nygard’s early trips to China to source materials for his business, he met with key government officials. These officials directed Nygard’s interests to their factories located in underdeveloped farmlands in order to infuse needed capital into their villages.
Still, this was advantageous to Peter Nygard, a Canadian, who was ahead of the curve not just in business strategies but in sourcing advantages as well since Americans were not allowed to do business with China during that time.
Nygard established factories in these villages and developed long-term relationships with the people. He trained the workers to help improve the quality of the products and provided needed tools and resources. His company associates worked on the factory floors training the factory workers and helping the factories to become profitable.
Some relationships lasted as long as twenty-five to thirty years. However, the more the country developed and villagers left for better paying jobs in the city, the more the factories struggled to find workers and remain open.
Even though it had become more expensive to do business as this happened, Nygard still maintained relationships with these factories while at the same time being forced to add additional factories to keep up with demand.
He would then begin the cycle in a new country, offering training and development to increase quality, improving efficiencies, and helping villages increase their personal income, which increased their standard of living.
All of the assistance and the focus on maintaining long-term relationships resulted in a high level of loyalty from the villagers who were very grateful to Mr. Nygard.
This pattern of working in this way with villages and their fabric mills and garment factories to help improve their lives happened not just in the rural areas of China but everywhere Nygard and his team went.
This was the NYGÅRD company way and was repeated everywhere including Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Jordan, and Kenya.
This is how Peter Nygard became beloved around the world by the people and by country leaders. It’s the way he does business. It’s simply the way he is.
