Police on Friday said the man who was gunned down outside a Bartlett Street home around 1:30 Thursday afternoon was wanted by police in Miami and here in New Providence.
He has been identified as 38-year-old Randolph Almanto Coakley of Pinewood Gardens.
During a press conference on Saturday, Central Detective Unit (CDU) Head, Superintendent Paul Rolle told the media he was wanted for three murders.
“I can confirm that we have received notice from Miami police that he had been wanted for a double homicide that took place sometime in 2011,” he told the media.
“We were also looking for him in regards to a murder that took place on Sapodilla Boulevard that took place early last year. A gentleman had just pulled up at his residence around 2:00 a.m. and was accosted and shot.”
According to reports, Coakley was wanted in connection with the murder of Broward County teenager in Florida, Marissa Karp, whose body was shoved into a garbage bag and dumped into an Everglades canal more than a decade ago.
Coakley was also a fugitive in a separate 2002 double murder in Sunrise linked to the Bahamian narcotics trade, the Miami Herald reported.
Superintendent Rolle said no suspects are being held in connection with Coakley’s murder.
Coakley was in the Johnson Road area sitting outside a home with two other men when police reported that a light skinned man ran out of bushes just opposite the house and started firing.
They said Coakley tried to escape the hail of bullets and ran into the home where the gunman followed him and shot him about the body.
Soon after police say a gold colored Honda vehicle pulled up and the assailant jumped inside and left the area.
The other two men who were with the deceased at the time were not injured.
Coakley’s death marked the country’s 27th murder for the year.
Police investigations continue.
