Minnis: PLP Have Failed Bahamians

Leader of the Opposition Dr. Hubert Minnis has lambasted the current administration once again, as he reiterated IMF projections that say the Unemployment Rate in the country will increase.

In a press release Dr. Minnis said that the PLP has failed the people as a government and all they have to show for it are empty promises.

“Instead of growing the economy and providing good jobs as they were elected and as they promised to do, the PLP has sat idly by and allowed the Bahamian economy to fail.

Baha Mar still sits vacant; an empty hulking testament to the PLP’s many broken promises – this one being their promise of five-thousand good paying jobs. And thanks to the empty rhetoric and broken promises from this PLP Government, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that The Bahamas unemployment rate will increase to 15.6 percent.”

“The PLP Government continues to fail the Bahamian people at every turn. We continue to receive reports from independent agencies that our economy, and especially the tourism sector, is contracting,” Dr. Minnis said.

Dr. Minnis also added that contrary to what PLP officials have said there will be a downgrade and according to recent statistics there will be little economic growth.

“This report comes on the heel of Moody’s review of a likely credit downgrade. This failure is unacceptable with so many families struggling and communities in economic distress– but unfortunately not surprising.

“This PLP Government is failing to do everything they can to help our people find employment and get the economy growing again. This is their main mission and they are failing miserably at it.”

“For the 15.6 percent of Bahamians that are looking for work, according to the Inter-American Development Bank’s recent report, the Department of Labour is only helping 2-percent of them to find the work they so desperately search for. 2-percent!

“What is this Government doing besides working to enrich itself? The report confirms that they certainly are not working for the unemployed as only 2 of every 100 persons who apply to the Department of Labour will be offered a job,” Dr. Minnis said.

Dr. Minnis stressed that the Free National Movement is the only party that will work on making lives better for the average Bahamian.

“The Bahamian people deserve better. They deserve leadership that is more focused on the good of all Bahamians and not focused on enriching themselves and their families.

The Bahamian people need leadership that looks out and works for everyone – not just the chosen few. The FNM will provide this leadership that the Bahamian people so desperately need and deserve,” Dr. Minnis said.

The FNM General Convention is scheduled July 27th-29th.
