The suspect in the assault video posted on social media over the Easter holiday was remanded to prison yesterday following his arraignment.
Brent McPhee, 27, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and threatening the victim with death. McPhee pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The incident captured on video that circulated on social media occurred on April 4.
The victim, Arthur Buchanan, was allegedly held at knife point and bashed over the head several times by the accused. He was also forced to declare the name of a well-known gang in New Providence.
During the arraignment yesterday, prosecutor Audrey Deveaux denied McPhee bail stating that investigations are still ongoing.
She also noted that there was a possibility that additional charges could be brought against the accused.
Despite attorney Ian Cargill’s appeal that the video did not display attempted murder or grievous harm, McPhee was remanded to The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until his bail hearing scheduled for April 16.
According to reports, three men were taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with this video.
