McCartney Responds To US Advisory

Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Leader Branville Mccartney weighed in on the drama involving the US and The Bahamas, as a series of travel advisories were issued back and forth between the two countries.

Mr. McCartney said that even though he does not know the motive behind the government’s advisory, the crime situation at home is too pressing for them to be concerned about other countries.

“Wherever we go in the world as Bahamians we should be safe. We should be cognizant of the laws that country.

“However, when it comes to our country we have a problem here and that problem is crime and that extends to everybody. We have crimes committed indirectly against personnel of the prime minister, the deputy prime minister’s house, so we need to address those concerns at home to ensure that Bahamians are safe,” Mr. McCartney said.

He added that both the PLP and FNM have yet to deliver on their campaign promises, in curbing the current crime situation, as The Bahamas ranks as one of the worst in the world.

“The FNM and PLP have both failed miserably in dealing with this problem, and this is a government (PLP) that is now issuing a warning in relation to another country.

“When they campaigned against crime regarding the FNM, it now seems that their record in dealing with this crime situation is just as bad or even worse.

“The bottom line is that we need to be very careful on when we issue advisories to other countries, when what we have at home is one of the worst in the world.

“The United States has millions of people. We don’t even have a million people in our country and our crime rate per capita certainly outweighs that of the United States.

Mr. McCartney said that his party is the only one that is truly ready to deal with the ongoing plight of crime within the country.

“They won’t fix it. To ensure that there is law and order in this country and that is the DNA, the PLP and FNM have both failed miserably I keep saying we should be mad as hell at both these administrations,” he said.

Mr. McCartney has been very outspoken over the past several weeks on numerous issues, ranging from the government’s lack of transparency to the prime Minister’s resignation after several failed referendums.
