A man’s body was recovered from waters at Long Wharf Beach Wednesday morning after he drowned.
The unidentified man is believed to be in his mid to late 50s.
According to reports, police were alerted to the incident at around 8:45 a.m. and a team from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) was dispatched to the scene.
The man’s body was quickly recovered and brought to shore where he was pronounced dead on the scene.
The circumstances surrounding this incident are still unknown, but Police Press Liaison Officer Inspector Chrislyn Skippings said there are no signs that foul play is involved.
“There were no visible signs to the body and at present our investigators are on scene and they are continuing their investigations into this particular incident,” Inspector Skippings told reporters at the scene.
She further advised beachgoers to use extreme caution while in the water.
“I want to encourage you to take a friend or a family member with you to the beach,” she said. “Make sure you are paying attention, check with the Met Office as well, and check to see what the weather conditions are so that we don’t have any more unfortunate incidents like this.”
Police are continuing their investigations to determine exactly what led to the man’s death.
