Man Charged With Shooting Cop

A man accused of shooting a police officer in the face as he tried to escape police custody over the weekend was arraigned in court on Monday on a laundry list of charges.

Twenty five-year-old Reginald Kenton Chase is accused of shooting police officer 3337 Herman Pinder on June 2.

According to police, Chase was initially arrested at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday for questioning in connection with armed robbery charges, and was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department,

It is alleged that while Chase was in the X-Ray Department at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) he asked the police officer to use the bathroom.

Police said after his handcuffs were removed he disarmed the officer and shot him in the neck.

He was later apprehended Saturday afternoon.

Police wasted no time in bringing the accused criminal before the courts.

Chase, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez, was charged with attempted murder and trying to escape police custody.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Chase, who is well known to police, had a laundry list of other charges to answer to as well.

It is alleged that on January 7, Chase raped two women, a 46-year-old and a 29-year-old.

On that same day, it is alleged that Chase, while armed with a .38 revolver, robbed Frederick and Michelle Bowe of $260 and a Blackberry cellular phone.

Police said the accused also robbed Deneil Brooks of a Nokia cellular phone.

Chase was not required to enter a plea to the charges.

He was also charged with possession of an unlicenced firearm and possession of ammunition.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Chase has been placed on remand until September 25 at which time a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI) will be served.
