The man accused of murdering a 24-year-old woman who had been missing for weeks before her decomposed body was found was on Thursday formally arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court while angry family and friends of the victim had to be restrained behind barricades.
According to court dockets, between Feb 22and March 8, 33-year-old Hospital Lane resident Jamal Sargeant intentionally caused the death of 24-year-old Nyoshi Adderly.
The victim was missing for two weeks before Sargeant reportedly lead officers to her badly decomposed in a shallow grave behind an abandoned building in the Cowpen Road area.
Sources confirmed that the scene was so gruesome it left crime officers speechless.
Scores of Adderley’s family members gathered at the scene late Sunday and were visibly shaken up and overcome by grief.
While they declined to talk to our news team at the time, a family friend says the family “knows” the body belongs to Adderley, who has a four-year-old daughter.
When Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt asked Sargeant if he had anything to say, he declined to comment.
He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons.
The case will proceed via Voluntary Bill of Indictment on May 30.
