A man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend had confided in his relative that he was going to carry out the deadly plot.
Rashid Dean, 28, is accused of murdering 27-year-old Club Med security officer Onieka Johnson two years ago.
The love triangle murder trial began yesterday in the Supreme Court.
Justice Indra Charles is presiding over the trial.
Johnson was brutally stabbed to death on August 14, 2011 in the front of the Club Med resort in San Salvador while on duty.
During the first day of trial, the four-man, 12-woman jury heard testimony from Dean’s cousin, Lynette Forbes.
While on the witness stand she testified that her cousin told her at one point that he would kill Johnson, her boyfriend at the time of her death, Justin Benson, and himself.
However, she said he later told her that he had changed his mind.
Jurors also heard from Mr. Benson, who testified that when Dean and Johnson broke-up, he and she became more than friends.
At that time Mr. Benson and Johnson worked together in security, while Dean worked in the housekeeping department, but all in the same hotel.
During his testimony he said he had just talked to his girlfriend around 8:00 a.m., but a few hours later he received information that she had died.
He said when he walked to the front of the hotel; he met the area cordoned off with yellow tape.
Johnson’s murder was the 90th for the year.
Attorney Murrio Ducille represents Dean.
Darnell Dorsette is the lead prosecutor.
