Homicide investigators wrestled a bloody weekend following three murders in New Providence; all taking place within hours of each other.
The search continues for the suspects.
In the latest incident, police said a man’s lifeless body was discovered in the area of a park on Flint and Taylor Streets around 6:50a.m. Sunday.
The victim, who had multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Hours earlier around 10:30p.m. Saturday, detectives received a report of a man found dead at his Ludlow Street home.
He too had been fatally shot. Police believe robbery may have been the motive behind the 61-year-old man’s death.
Meantime, 21-year-old Omar Wendall Moxey was fatally shot while on Potters Cay Dock early Saturday morning.
Preliminary reports indicate that Moxey and two other men were at the dock when guns shots rang out. The men soon realised they had all been shot.
Police said the victims were taken to hospital; however, Moxey died.
At last report, the other two men, a 49 and 24 year old were detained in serious condition.
The matters remain under active investigation.
The country’s homicide count shot up only days after a listening crime forum, dubbed “Operation Ceasefire” was held at the St. Joseph’s Community Centre.
The idea was to get the average Bahamian’s suggestions on how best to curb the problem.
The suggestions ranged from enforcing capital punishment to longer prison sentences to tougher immigration laws.
National Security Minister, Dr. Bernard Nottage assured that the suggestions will not be taken for granted.
He said within a month or two, he will announce which of the recommendations will be used in the ongoing fight against crime.
