Member of Parliament for MICAL V .Alfred Gray has shot down rumors that have been circulating via social media that the island of Samana Cay has been sold. The island which is extremely vital to Acklins and Crooked Island is an integral part of the out island economy generating revenue streams though various agricultural ventures.
“Social media and I was advised some radio talk show in Nassau have been circulating wrong information about the sale of Samana cay, in the Acklins are.
“Samana Cay is important because it is the Cay in which the majority of the residents North Acklins go to farm for cascarilla bark, it is not true that the government has sold or entered into agreement for sale of that cay, Mr. Gray said.
Gray added that detractors and social media commentators who are disseminating wrong information are doing more harm than good and are fostering a sense of moral panic among the community at large.
“I invite those pundits and want to be politicians to stop the lies, I think it is putting fear in our people, it is putting hate in our person that is not necessary.
“You must be able to win elections on the basis of the issues not about spreading the lies and making people fearful of their future as long as I am the Member of Parliament, I will always be direct and upfront with the people I represent.
“So let me put an end to that lies, the misinformation that Samana Cay has been sold, that is a lie period,” Mr. Gray said.

Samana Cay is the largest uninhabited island in the Bahamas.
