Just hours before he was scheduled to appear as a witness in a trial, a 29-year-old father was gunned down outside his Pinewood Gardens home yesterday.
Lamar Roberts stepped outside his Bamboo Street home yesterday morning, only to meet two men in hooded sweaters waiting to kill him.
According to police, the men hopped out of a charcoal coloured Suzuki SUV and opened fire on the victim.
Roberts tried to run away, but the men continued chasing him and firing shots.
That chase ended in the front yard of a house at the end of the corner where Roberts collapsed and died.
He was shot multiple times about the upper body, including his head.
Neighbours told The Bahama Journal that Roberts’ girlfriend and their young son wept as they clung to his body.
The Journal confirmed that Roberts was scheduled to appear as a witness in an armed robbery trial Monday afternoon.
However, he will be marked as deceased and his name will now be removed from that list.
Head of the Central Detective Unit, Superintendent Paul Rolle said he could not deny or confirm that the victim was indeed a witness.
“At this time, I cannot confirm whether or not he was scheduled for court,” he said. “But it’s all a part of our investigation. We will investigate and try to find the person responsible for this.”
At last report, police had no leads into the case.
They are now asking anyone with information to call 919 or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS.
The murder count now stands at 91.
