Contract awarded for GB sporting complex

Minister for Grand Bahama Dr. Michael Darville announced in Parliament yesterday that a recent contract was awarded to upgrade the Grand Bahama Sporting facility.

 Dr. Darville said with the accomplishments of so many athletes from Grand Bahama, a proper sporting facility is needed.

 “Grand Bahama has a record of success as it relates to producing world class athletes. However as promised in our charter of governance we must ensure that Grand Bahama have adequate sporting facilities and equipment so that we can continue to train prime athletes,” the minister said.

 “I am pleased to report that a contract has been awarded and work is presently being done to upgrade the Grand Bahama sporting complex.”

 “These upgrades will better assist the overall development of young Grand Bahamians in the areas of sports and will definitely create the necessary framework for us to attract prime sporting events to the island of Grand Bahama.”

 The minister went on to add that five additional playing fields are being created for the upcoming flag football championship.

 Recently Buddy Hield, a basketball collegiate athlete from Eight Mile Rock has made a big name for himself in the basketball arena and is currently a prospective NBA draft pick.

 Jonquell Jones, another resident of Grand Bahama was recently drafted to the WNBA.
