The murder trial of two brothers believed to be responsible for a 2012 shooting death got underway in the Supreme Court on Tuesday before Senior Justice Jon Isaacs.
Leroy Smith, 27, of Old Boat Alley and his brother 26-year-old Tony Smith of Kelly’s Lane are accused of the murder of Tristan Bartlett who was shot to the head on February 6, 2012.
Taking the witness stand was Detective Corporal Tavares Moxey who recalled being given instructions on February 16 to inspect the car that was driven by the victim.
Mr. Moxey, who was attached to the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, said he inspected a Green Honda Accord, licence plate number 255553 that was parked in the Drug Enforcement Unit’s (DEU) lot, and observed a number of items in the right passenger seat.
Some of those items included ammunition casings, CD player, Nokia phone and what appeared to be splattered blood stains were also observed.
Moxey said he took photos of the items and the car itself – those photos were secured in a sealed package and presented to the court and viewed by members of the jury.
According to police reports, back in February, Bartlett was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Green Honda when he was approached by five men, two of whom were armed with handguns.
The men opened fire on the vehicle resulting in the victim being shot twice in his head, a friend of the victim jumped into the vehicle and drove the man to the hospital.
However Bartlett succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
Representing the defendant is attorney Murrio Ducille and lead prosecutor in the case is Darnell Dorsett.
The trial continues in the Supreme Court.
