The skeletal remains of an infant were found at the public dump on Saturday.
According to Police Press Liaison Officer, Inspector Chrislyn Skippings, an employee discovered the remains shortly after 11:00 a.m. while working at the site.
Minister of the Environment, Kenred Dorsett issued a press statement on the incident late Saturday.
“It is with sadness that I inform the general public of the gruesome discovery of what appeared to be the human remains of an infant, found by an employee while carrying out his normal duties,” he said.
“I am advised that the Royal Bahamas Police Force was immediately notified of the discovery and an active investigation is now underway. May God have mercy on the soul of this innocent infant.”
Police are investigating and appealing to members of the public who may have information that can assist them in locating the mother to contact police.
