It was December 27, 2013 when four of Fox Hill’s finest residents were shot dead in a violent drive by shooting on the basketball court at Freedom Park, as they awaited the results of the Boxing Day Junkanoo parade.
To honour the young and promising heroes, a memorial is being constructed on Freedom Park within the shadows of the ancient and towering Silk Cotton Trees.
Featured prominently at the memorial are four monuments erected in memory of the late Shaquille Demeritte, 19, Eric Morrison, 49, Claudenzo Davis, 37 and Sheniqua Sands, 30.
Family and friends gathered at the memorial along with their Member of Parliament Fred Mitchell on Sunday to update the media on the construction progress to date.
According to the contractor Mr. Davis, the total cost of the publicly funded memorial is just over $80,000.
It is 50 per cent completed and it is expected to be completed within two months.
Mr. Mitchell indicated that preliminarily, plans are underway for a dedication ceremony during the Emancipation Day holiday weekend, subject to consultations between the Fox Hill Festival Committee and the families of the victims.
